How it works

Keyboard shortcuts

  • Numbers and + − × ÷: the usual keys (* and / for × and ÷)
  • Enter or = : calculate
  • Backspace: delete the last entry · Esc: clear
  • ^ : power · ( ) : brackets · % : percent · ! : factorial · p : π

Order of operations

The calculator follows standard mathematical order: brackets first, then powers, then multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction. So 2 + 3 × 4 is 14, not 20. Missing closing brackets are added automatically when you press =.

Degrees and radians

Trigonometric functions use degrees by default, so sin(30) = 0.5. Press DEG to switch to radians for calculus and physics, where sin(π/6) = 0.5.

Memory and Ans

M+ adds the current result to memory, M− subtracts it, MR recalls it and MC clears it. Ans is the last answer, and starting a new expression with an operator continues from it.

Common questions

How do I calculate a percentage on this calculator?

Type the percentage followed by % and multiply: 15% × 80 gives 12. For a price after a 15% rise, type 80 × 1.15.

How do I enter a square root?

Press √ and then the number, for example √(2) = 1.4142. For other roots use x1/y: 27 then x1/y then 3 gives the cube root, 3.

Why does −3² show −9?

Powers come before the minus sign in standard notation, so −3² means −(3²). Type (−3)² to square a negative number.
