How it works
Fuel (L) = distance × L/100 km ÷ 100
Fuel (gal) = miles ÷ mpg
For a return trip, double the distance. Motorway speeds, air conditioning and a full load all increase consumption above the official figure.
Enter the trip distance, your car's fuel consumption and the price of fuel. The calculator shows how much fuel you need, what it costs and the share for each person.

Divide 235.2 by the US mpg figure. 30 mpg is about 7.8 L/100 km.
Fill the tank, reset the trip meter, drive normally, then refill: litres used ÷ km × 100 gives L/100 km.
